Mother's Day; Ken's 87th; New Gutter Shields;
Graduates: Libby and Ella; Ken & Judy Visit JDDMW
A fitting postcript from a friend for all of us 80-somethings:
"Memory ain't a-been serving me like it usta"
JD Retired Ladies Luncheon at The Olive Garden; Bob and Oren, Mrs Connie Elf; Bluejays bath in our homemade bird bath.
Above I am standing in the visitor's entrance on the south side. Ken is standing in front of what was Building 25 during my working days.
We liked the messages on the artifact "Committed to Those Linked to the Land" and the commemeration "In Memory of All American Veterans".
Everything was totally changed to the point I didn't recognize anything or anyone. But then I haven't worked in the plant since 1992 when I retired in May. And after that I spent nine years putting out the Turn Row, working in my basement office.
We finally found a door we could enter without a badge. There's only one! Then a long walk (with an employee accompanying us) back to the John Deere Store. I bought the book I was looking for, and had a nice chat with the lady in charge. I was excited to see a picture of the Turn Row of which I had been reporter, editor, photographer, and publisher. See photo of the page below:
Thoughtful girls, Holly & Shannon (Kristal couldn't be here) come bearing gifts for Ken's birthday and a pretty plant for me. Bob and George sent See's which are half gone already!
Thank goodness for those who can do ladders for those who cannot! Taken in our back yard while installing new gutter guards.
Connie Visits for Ken's Birthday
Ella graduates from pre-school in white. They asked the children what they wanted to be when they grow up. As you can see, Ella said she wants to be an actress.
More of Ella Below
Notice girls with teacher and also them standing are very similar poses.
Libby Graduates Kindergarten and
will miss her teacher
Libby Likes Mud!!
I hope Val uses Tide, haha
Coffee Girls Having Lunch with Jan's Daughter Jackie Hosting. Picture of Jan & I missing. Well, actually I cut us out. Poor pictures of the two of us.
Well, I'm 84. (Sigh)
But I swim 45 min. every other day.
A quirk of mine: I don't like my bare feet anywhere in public, especially swimming pools and showers.
I wear swim shoes from time I swim, into shower and ready for my street shoes again.
Mr. Buttons; he's 19 and blind. My friend Judy babysits for him if his owner needs.
More new birds in our back yard. Below Catbird is after a drink. We know his name from pictures and also he mews.
Scott's Oriole.
He only stayed two days.
We've had the cowbirds before(like the one on the left), but I didn't know the gray bird. Valerie says it's a female cowbird.
Lunch with Bob at the Uptown Restaurant. We enjoyed the very congenial waitress. She has 6, yes 6, boys! Aged 15 years down to six months.
I can't remember all names, but this is Thayne and Barb below, and ?, Crystal and Jan to right.
To left is Katy, Vicky, Linda & Deb. Right below is JoAnn, Marian,
Kathleen and Carla
And last but not least Judy.
The whole group
Bob telling Oren to look at the camera and smile.
Myrtle's Sr. Graduation picture found in my backyard. Strangely, as finding it is the first time I'd ever seen it. I know it sounds crazy.....
The back of the picture says her name (I don't use last names here) Ankeny High Graduation, 1935.
The Bluejays love our homemade bird bath. Most of the birds and chipmunks just drink from it. The Bluejays take baths.
Mrs. Connie Elf - She made the costume! Looking good!
Connie with Don
Sam won second in the National Tournament in Reno. There were 400 people competing. He's shown with Rick receiving his share of the money.
On the way out to Reno they competed in another tournament where Bob won first place. Trophy below. (excuse the cut-out job. I'll get better.)
